Rasheed Responds to Shooting in Ward 7
WASHINGTON, D.C. (14 February 2024) – This morning, three police officers were shot while serving an animal cruelty warrant at a home in Ward 7. The shooting forced multiple schools to go into lockdown. Children could be seen having police escorts bringing them to and from school.
Of the shooting, Veda Rasheed said, "The continued violence in our community is unacceptable, especially when it affects our children. As someone who has been personally and directly impacted by gun violence, I know how insurmountable the suffering can feel when confronted with these senseless acts. I am keeping those affected in my prayers and hope for the swift recovery of all those harmed.
"Enhanced public safety continues to be a top priority of our campaign. As Ward 7's next councilmember, I will work with the mayor and DCPD to ensure that every resident feels safe and every child has safe passage on their way to and from school. This is our ward and we have to continue working together as a community to keep our neighborhoods safe."
Veda Rasheed's public safety platform will be released early next week. The platform will be available on Ms. Rasheed's campaign website.
