WASHINGTON, D.C. (14 September 2023) – This week lifelong Ward 7 resident and community advocate, Veda Rasheed, officially announced her candidacy for DC Council representing Ward 7. Rasheed, a native of River Terrace, current Hillcrest resident, and former Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner for Benning Ridge, is known for her passionate dedication to the community she calls home.

"I've always believed in the spirit and potential of Ward 7," says Rasheed. "From my childhood days in River Terrace to my tenure as the Chair of the Ward 7 Young Democrats and as a member of My School DC Advisory Council, my commitment to our community has never wavered."

In her role as an attorney, Rasheed's understanding of the law-making process and problem-solving skills sets her apart as a formidable candidate. Her extensive experience as a Ward 7 Pave Parent Representative and advocate showcases her fervent desire for a brighter future for all residents.

Rasheed’s campaign will emphasize the importance of active representation, community-led initiatives, and an unwavering commitment to making positive changes. Her dedication to Ward 7 is deeply personal, with her family, childhood friends, and community playing a pivotal role in her decision to run.

"The challenges we face are not unfamiliar," Rasheed said, referencing an incident where her children’s school was shaken by nearby gunshots. "But with those challenges comes an opportunity for change, growth, and a brighter future for our children. I am stepping up, not just as an advocate, but as a mother, a friend, a small business owner, and a lifelong Washingtonian to ensure that our voices are heard, and we get the representation we deserve."
